The Process

2021
January 1

Free Assessment

If you’re not sure where to begin, your first step should be to take our free online readiness assessment. It’ll take about ten minutes to step through our simple question set. Once completed, you’ll be able to instantly download a report with actions and advice based on your answers. The readiness assessment is totally free and anonymous – we don’t ask for your email or bombard you with marketing emails and calls.

January 2

Choose Your Package

Hopefully by now you’ll have a little more understanding of the Cyber Essentials scheme and how much effort your organisation will require to get certified. We offer several Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus Packages, the main difference between packages being how much support you get. Your next step is to decide which package is right for you and place your order.

January 3

Complete the Self-assessment Questionnaire

After your order, one of our consultants will contact you with the current Cyber Essentials question set. You’ll need to review the questions and answer them as best you can. Depending on the package you’ve chosen, you’ll have access to varying levels of resource packs and support from our consultants.

January 7

Get Assessed

Once you and your consultant are happy that your answers are accurate, up to date and acceptable, your application will be submitted for assessment. The assessor will review your responses and may contact you with any questions they have about your answers. If your submission is declined, the assessor will provide feedback as to why, to allow you to make the necessary changes to your environment or application before resubmitting.

January 10

Download Feedback and Certificate

If your application has been successful, you’ll receive an email with the assessor’s feedback, your certificate and the Cyber Essentials badge which you can display on your website and other media. You can download these files anytime from the Cyber Toolkit control panel too.

You can decide to proceed with Cyber Essentials Plus now, if not we’ll be in touch three months before your Cyber Essentials renewal is due to provide you with the current question set.

February 2

Cyber Essentials Plus

If you’ve chosen to apply for Cyber Essentials Plus, your assessor will be in touch with you to discuss your IT equipment and a plan for performing the assessment.

February 4

Get Assessed for Cyber Essentials Plus

The assessment for Cyber Essentials Plus will involve:

  • Installing the scanning agent
  • An internal and external vulnerability scan
  • Assessment of malware protection for end user devices
  • Assessment of malware protection for email and web

If you fail the assessment, the assessor will provide feedback as to why, to allow you to make the necessary changes to your environment before reassessing.

February 5

Download Cyber Essentials Plus Feedback and Certificate
